Wonderful wonderful Copenhagen

First day in the big city and the priority was the broken fridge. We established that a man will come and look at it tomorrow afternoon. So today was ours to sample the delights of ģlorious Copenhagen.

We got some maps...well, compass-head Nic can't do without them. And took the 9a bus from near the marina to the central station to buy a travel pass. As the bus took us into the city we wondered at the many fantastic towers (see pics), the verdigris-green roofs and spires, and the handsome spacious feel of the place.

Faced with a hundred possibilities, we decided to plump for the Christiansborg Palace, home of royal functions, Danish parliament and the Prime Minister.

We saw glittering state rooms, thrones, artwork, royal stables and ruins of the former palaces in the basement. (Two burned down in succession)

The stone ruins were deliciously cool on a very muggy day. By 4pm we were shattered

On the bus home Lesley spotted a Red Cross charity shop and energy returned. She found a fine Danish vase for a snip and the cafe next door served iced rhubarb drinks with frozen cheesecake. We watched a bevy of young male models clustered for a fashion shoot. Everyone in Copenhagen seems impossibly tanned and cool.

Wonderful really is the right adjective for this city.
