How much?!
Last night we had the Danes doing their crazy thing of sailing out from the depths of the marina right past our stern (pic) - slightly alarming but they are very good at it.
Another boiling hot day, what else. Last night we had heavy rain for 25 seconds and that was it for the forecast thunderstorm. Today we located the water bus - with our 5-day Citypass it's all included so we trundled down the main waterway and back, getting off at the famous Nyhavn. This is a picturesque side canal with pretty buildings and traditional boats (3pics).
After a long stroll which became a trudge we found shady seats by the water to eat our sandwiches (how very British). This entailed a walk across their 2016 equivalent of London's Millennium bridge, with great views of the main waterway including a yacht cheekily sailing perilously close (pic). Then we went for a coffee in a very on-trend café where English & French fashionistas were meeting. Aha! It is Fashion Week in Copenhagen. That explains a lot, such as the impossibly thin youngsters all smoking next to yesterday's café.
The fridge man did cometh, sucked his Danish teeth and said there was nothing he could do, we needed an electrician. Shortly after two electricians came, sucked their teeth and said it could not be repaired and we'd best buy a cool box (portable fridge). We spoke to the original manufacturer in Sweden and their agent in Copenhagen who said "30 years old? No spares for that." We went to pay for the fridge & electric men's time hoping they would say nowt, cos they had not helped, only to be given a bill for £150 - how much?! Our protestations got it significantly reduced, bit still what a nerve. Thence to chandlers to discuss replacement fridge - on a special offer at £450 - how much?!! But out of stock and guy who can fit it on hols. So cool box that we plug into 12v then ... £200 - how flippin much?!!! Oh well, that's our solution for this season, sort out new fridge in the winter. Is that the last of our 30 year-old equipment to die?
After all that 'excitement' we had a quiet time and pasta boat meal with a sensibly (!) sized drink.
