Back at Sea
Early up this morning for once; 0545 alarm. We planned to leave Rodvig at 0730 - not for tides as in UK, but to arrive at next marina early enough to be able to find a space. This is last week of summer hols for the Danes (and Swedes, Germans and Nederlanders are all still on hols) so it is Busy.
Porridge first of course, and strong coffee. A couple of time in recent years we've said "oh, let's make breakfast on the way" then the weather changes or something breaks and 2 hours later we're dead grumpy cos we're hungry. So always porridge first.
Engine on at 0730 precisely - we had warned our neighbours. One had to move his boat and others guard theirs as we inched out of our crowded corner, saying goodbye to our berth of 11 weeks. There were indeed only inches to spare as we swung her nose and pointed towards the open sea.
The 6 hour passage was uneventful. We did see a Navy patrol boat, a helicopter practising chasing a motorboat, and the undersides of planes landing at Copenhagen Airport. The good ole engine did its job. We could have sailed part of it but prudence on this first time out - one step at a time. It was wonderful to be at sea again.
The picture is of The Bridge (Denmark to Sweden) - if you don't recognise the name Saga Noren then the significance is lost on you. We could see the central pillars from 20 miles away.
Now we are tucked up in a berth near the clubhouse and facilities in a huge, 800-berth marina called Margretheholm, which is run by a sailing club. Having arrived at 1330 we flaked out in the heat all afternoon, and this evening only staggered to the clubhouse restaurant for some excellent food.
