CATCH-UP BLOG.
Fri 3rd
Late up by our standards, forgiving ourselves after yesterday's 10 hours of travel. Checked bow thruster and fridge. Both definitely dead. 1030 and it's steaming hot already. Too hot to think let alone get upside down in lockers.
Went to see Jens the Harbourmaster who has been keeping an eye on the boat. What a lovely, helpful man. Paid a very reasonable sum for keeping the boat here for 11 weeks, with the offer of free ice from the fishing shed to cool our cupboard that used to be a fridge. Jens found an electrician to come for 8am Mon.
We did a small Food Shop adapted to having no fridge, then approached the shed previously indicated with slight trepidation on an ice hunt. No worries - Jens was there, weighing fish. How many shovelfuls of ice did I want from this huge pile?
Went for drinks with Jayne & Tim from Halifax in an Ovni. We had met them in Fehmarn when we were all getting ready for the season. They got as far as the Aaland islands. That might have been us. They had seen the boat all shut up and asked Jens and heard the story. Spent a very pleasant hour yarning over some powerful G&Ts.
Sat 4th
Loud music & sweary drunk people until 4am so we were up very late again. L v cross at loss of a night's sleep.
A swim at a nearby stony beach was excellent because they have a swimming platform with steps at the end down into the sandy bit.
An annual fair selling local produce happened today about 10m from our berth. V busy but really not v exciting. For hubbub relief we caught the hourly train to Stor Heddinge, the next village, where shops closed just as we arrived at 1400. Saturday afternoon and the place deserted. Nice buildings. Church with an octagonal nave featured a hanging model galleon that symbolises our journey through life. Fiercely hot again.
Back to boat for rest & reading (and this).
Helped ourselves to more ice; look like you own the place and no-one questions you. Other boats come and go furiously while we feel part of the harbour. Really nice time-off day today - perhaps tomorrow we'll make a list of jobs required before we leave this homely place.
